Soufïa Bensaïd is an interdisciplinary Tuniso-Canadian artist. She worked as a consulting engineer in French and Tunisian companies before immigrating to Canada in 2000. After working as a communication counselor in cultural organizations, she chose to fully devote herself to her artistic practice. The experience of different professional and social environments in Tunisia, France, and Canada, invited her to live a transformational identity, to question the perception gaps and the foundation of existence – subjects that inhabit her artwork. Soufïa’s practice is at the intersection of performance art, drawing, movement, relational aesthetics, site-specific action, and installation. Her material is drawn from everyday life. Being in relation/in relationship to is the foundation of her work. The relationship between oneself and another offers a field of presence that facilitates transmissions. She is interested in the way the experiences she offers question our perception of the world and the relativity of the reference systems. Since 2009, her work has been presented as exhibition, action, performance, installation, residency, publication and video in Canada, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, France, Tunisia, India and United States. Soufïa lives near Montreal, in the countryside.
